In September 2019 my partner and I set off on the ‘journey of a lifetime’. We intended to travel for 12 months, embracing a life of flexibility, spontaneity and accessibility. Each day during this time abroad, I would paint whatever stirred my interest, whether it was a pair of shoes, the natural landscape or the ever-changing styles of architecture. Like so many artists before me, travel required my studio to be reduced down to an ultra-small scale. My painting box could only accommodate postcard size works, even though the places in front of us were so large and stimulating. I felt as if the world was my oyster but alas it had other plans. After 6 months overseas we unexpectedly returned to Australia, due to the COVID-19 virus. My painted snapshots, now serve more as reminders of how fortunate people have been to have had the opportunity to travel and live in times of such certainty and stability.
